Latest Version Release Notes

V1.2.0.0 - 24/10/11

  • Fixed bug dragging images within collections.
  • All frames, sizes, prices and order codes can now be configured via a text file. Click here to download a sample configuration file. Unzip into the Envision program folder (on Windows 7 - C:\Program Files (x86)\Envision) and edit as necessary using a plain text editor such as Notepad.
  • Improvements to slideshow transition effects.

Installing / Upgrading Envision

Prerequisites
  • Ensure you have pre-installed the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE 7 or later) from Sun's website - see http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp. You may be prompted to do this during installation if a recent JRE is not found on your PC.
  • To make use of the iTunes synchronisation features you will also need to download & install the iTunes player from Apple's website (see http://www.apple.com/itunes).
Occasionally when starting iTunes you will be prompted to download the latest iTunes player via the web. If the player is not already running and you happen to start / stop the Envision slideshow without first upgrading iTunes, it will fail to auto-start correctly and you may notice a small flag icon in the Windows task bar (alongside the Envision icon). To resolve this issue simply update the iTunes player as requested and restart Envision.
  • PDF documents (ie. order forms, contact sheets etc.) can be automatically generated by printing using the Adobe PDF Creator Desktop Printer (see http://createpdf.adobe.com) or one of the freely available alternatives (eg. Cute PDF Writer - see http://www.cutepdf.com). Once installed, the PDF creator will be listed as a regular printer in Windows/MacOS and can be used to convert many types of documents to PDF format.
  • Envision currently runs on all versions of Windows, but please call if you would like to use a MAC or Linux as alternate versions could be made available at no extra cost.
  • This software runs best on a 3GHz+ single core or 1.5GHz+ multi core PC, with ideally 2GB or more of RAM. It will however run on slower machines with less memory (min 0.5Gb) but you will need to use the 'Convert Show' button to reduce the size of your show images to 600 pixels max to get acceptable performance. For a modern PC with a 3.0GHz or faster CPU and at least 2GB RAM, a setting of 1024 pixels or higher is recommended. When converting shows you will need to find your optimum setting, but you may want to try using the screen width (or less) of your projector screen resolution as a good starting point for the max. pixel size.

Installation & Registration

  • To install Envision run the 'EnvisionXXXX.msi' installer file from the website and follow the instructions on-screen.
  • Once installed you can run Envision either from the Start Menu or the Desktop icon and follow the on-screen instructions to register your copy as a trial. Please email your Registration files to envision@allsoft.co.uk.

Upgrading

  • When upgrading from an older version you may need to uninstall your current version before installing a later version. You will be prompted if uninstallation is necessary. All your settings & preferences remain stored (in the Envision program folder) even after uninstallation and will be reused by the new version.
  • When upgrading your Preview PC please ensure that all other PCs used for reading orders are upgraded at the same time, as older versions are not guaranteed to read the new order files.

Initial Setup

  • Once you have successfully installed Envision, select Edit-Preferences from the main menu and use the 'Browse' button to set the 'Sessions Root Folder' (usually your P: drive) to the parent folder containing your session folders.
  • If you have archived sessions available on one or more network attached storage devices (eg. Lacie Drives etc.) copy & paste (Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V) the full paths to all archive folders into the 'Archive Path(s)' setting. Multiple folders can be entered using a ';' to seperate the paths (eg. X:\arc1_parent;Y:\arc2_parent).
  • You may wish to change the default Convert Show source & destination folders, as well as the orders folder, although it is recommended that the orders folder is kept within the show folder to simplify show copying / archiving.
  • Set the roomsets folder to either a shared folder or a local folder (if you want the fastest posible roomset loading time). Please get in touch if you would like to download a set of sample roomset images.
  • To calibrate all projected images to life-size, make sure your projector is located in it's usual place in the preview room and hold up a 12" ruler next to the calibration bar projected on your wall. Position the ruler to measure from the bottom of the bar and simply click the top of the bar to line it up with the 12" mark on your ruler. You can also use the arrow buttons for fine adjustment.
  • Once you have done this, OK the Preferences screen and you should see your sessions listed to the left. Click on a session to start using Envision.
